The people in our coffee’s countries of origin are particularly close to our hearts. To support them, we were the first major roaster to launch Fairtrade-certified coffee on the German market in 1993 - a pioneering achievement for which we received the Fairtrade Award in the “Producer" category in 2009.

Since 2016, we have been improving the living conditions of coffee producers in Honduras with our H.E.L.P. project. J.J. Darboven is not just committed to people but also to nature. For example, with certified organic products that are cultivated in a particularly environmentally friendly way.

Coffee enjoyment with attitude:
Café Intención

Café Intención's Fairtrade and certified organic products offer a responsible way to enjoy high-quality coffee. Since the end of 2017, Café Intención has been encouraging caterers and consumers to think about fairness under the motto "Café Intención for Fair Thinkers".

H.E.L.P.

For its 150 year anniversary in 2016, J.J. Darboven started a long-term support project for coffee farmers in Honduras. In the structurally weak region of Santa Barbara, 250 small farmers benefit from H.E.L.P.'s professional assistance in production planning and coffee cultivation. J.J. Darboven employees regularly check the progress on site. While the average annual yield of the participating farmers at the start of the project was still below that of the entire country, the yield increase of 80% in 2017 significantly exceeded the national average.

The Fairtrade label guarantees that a minimum price is paid for the raw materials we purchase, which covers the living and production costs of the producers in the countries of cultivation. In addition, the so called Fairtrade fund enables economic and social development projects.
Products with the EU Organic Label have been farmed organically and meet the requirements of the EU Organic Regulation.
100% of our coffee bearing this seal originates from Rainforest Alliance certified farms. The independent environmental protection organisation focuses on the conservation of tropical rainforests and their biodiversity.
