Why shade trees can help

Our contribution to making coffee cultivation fit for the future

Climate change poses major challenges for coffee cultivation worldwide. With the Café Intención shade tree project, we have been making an active contribution to climate protection since 2023 - together with five coffee cooperatives and our long-standing partner Fairtrade.

Shade trees are planted specifically between the coffee plants. They not only protect against intense sunlight, but also improve the microclimate, soil quality and local biodiversity, depending on the type of tree. In this way, we are gradually counteracting the threatened livelihoods of coffee growers.

We know our coffee growers

We source 100% of the Arabica content for all Café Intención products from coffee cooperatives in the project.

applies to the country coffees Honduras and Peru as well as to the organic Gustoso products
