Throughout our value chain

Identify challenges. Develop strategies. Make progress transparent.

As a family-owned company with over 160 years of experience in coffee roasting, we are committed to addressing the environmental and social impacts of our business operations throughout the value chain.

Climate change poses significant challenges, particularly for coffee cultivation. Rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, extreme weather events, and shifts in ecosystems can affect growing conditions and the livelihoods of coffee producers.

That is why we are working in various areas to assess the impacts of our business activities and implement concrete measures. These include, among other things, measures in our production processes, projects in the countries of origin of our raw materials, collaboration with partner organizations, and the further development of our packaging.

We document the goals we are pursuing, the measures we have already implemented, and where further steps are needed in our Sustainability Report.

For People and the Environment Take responsibility. Shape the future.

Statement of Principles

Respect for Human Rights and Environmental Protection

Policy Statement on Respect for Human Rights and Environmental Protection in accordance with the requirements of the Act on Corporate Due Diligence to Prevent Human Rights Violations in Supply Chains (LkSG).

As a company with international business relationships, J.J. Darboven GmbH & Co. KG (“JJD”) is aware of its responsibilities and is therefore committed to improving the global human rights situation and environmental protection throughout its supply chains, and to ensuring that its business relationships are socially responsible for all parties involved.

With this policy statement, we expressly commit to complying with the conventions listed in the annex to Section 2(1) and Section 7(3), second sentence, of the LkSG, and we commit to upholding internationally recognized standards. Globalization and technological progress are leading to an ever-increasing interdependence of international markets, which brings with it both opportunities and challenges. The development of new markets and production facilities creates jobs and prosperity in the countries of origin. At the same time, it must be ensured that internationally recognized human rights and environmental protection are respected within the supply chains and that their enforcement is not hindered by a lack of transparency.

JJD is committed to respecting, protecting, and upholding the human rights of individuals and the protection of the environment. As a company, we stand by this responsibility. Our company’s management is committed to this and ensures that corporate due diligence is observed in the day-to-day operations of each business unit. Our business partners are expected to uphold the same standards regarding human rights and environmental values.

The risk analysis of our globally established business relationships shows that special attention must be paid to human rights and environmental risks, and when selecting our business partners, we ensure that they comply with all international standards for the protection of human rights and the environment. We review this at regular intervals to continuously mitigate risks.

To identify and effectively address human rights violations and environmental violations within our supply chain, JJD, in partnership with the German Coffee Association e.V. (“DKV”) and GRAS Global Risk Assessment Services GmbH ("GRAS") implements a management process based on a risk analysis procedure and a complaint management system, in which measures are taken to detect violations of human rights and environmental protection at an early stage and, where possible, proactively prevent them.

For JJD, equal rights for all are a matter of course. We do not tolerate discrimination against anyone, whether based on gender, sexual identity, ancestry, race, language, nationality and origin, faith, religious or political views, or a disability. We expressly reject any use of physical, sexual, or psychological violence and harassment. We reject corruption just as we reject child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking. Our understanding of human rights protection also includes paying fair wages, advocating for appropriate working conditions on-site, and preventing the exploitation of children. Our Code of Conduct (or Guiding Principles) summarizes our entire value system and provides guidance to every JJD employee.

JJD is committed to upholding these principles. We communicate our values within the company and to our partners. Our colleagues are encouraged to report any conflicts or suspected violations of our Code of Conduct to management and the Human Resources department. We offer regular training and information sessions to ensure the implementation and integration of our values into our business processes.
