The name COCAYA is a combination of the words "cocoa" and "Maya" – the Maya being the people who discovered the taste of cocoa in Central America around 300 AD. By the time cocoa beans reached Europe, the resulting bitter-tasting drink was already becoming more & more popular, with people adding honey or cane sugar. In 17th century Europe, drinking chocolate was only available as a restorative drink from chemists, but the average European now consumes 10 kg of chocolate per year. It should therefore come as no surprise that chocolate and drinking chocolate have been in demand as part of a drink menu for several years now, making it the perfect addition to the range of hot beverages served at any catering establishment.
