How to apply

Do you perform naturally, are you interested in J.J. Darboven and are you interested in an apprenticeship? Then it's up to you now!

An application - maybe even the first application in your life - can be exciting and challenging at the same time. What should I write? How should I present myself? And in the event of an interview: What should I wear? The whole thing is not as complicated as one would imagine. How often have you already created profiles of yourself? Be it on Facebook, Instagram or maybe even in professional networks like XING and LinkedIn.

In addition to general data, they provide insight into you as a person, making it easier to assess you. With good preparation you can arouse interest in your profile and the desire to get in touch with you. With these tips we would like to give you orientation and help you to draw attention to yourself:

Tips from our trainer

  • Take your time! For a good preparation, a good research to the company and for the writing of the application.
  • Don't just be interested, show it too! Not for nothing the cover letter is often called "motivation letter".
  • Make it easy! Pay attention to complete application documents and adherence to set standards.

Step by step to uniqueness

Individuality and personality should distinguish your application and run like a red thread through your cover letter and your presentation in a personal interview. Your application should be unique, because that is exactly what you are: unique. So show us what sets you apart from others.

Find out more about the individual stages of your application, what lead times need to be observed, what documents you need and how best to prepare yourself:

When can I apply?

We want to offer you an educational training so that you can develop and qualify yourself. However, since we can only offer a limited number of training places, it is advantageous if you apply to us one year before the start of your training. We will then review your written application and give you feedback in any case.

What documents should my application contain?

We need the following documents bundled in a PDF file:

  • Cover letter, also called motivation letter
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • the last two school reports
  • if available: Work certificates / Internship certificates / Certificates etc.

How can I send my application?

Please apply to your contact person Melanie Hashagen. Please send your application bundled in a PDF by e-mail to [email protected] Please be patient until we get back to you.

Good to know: Merge PDF and minimize its size! There are different ways to create a PDF from several documents. Common programs (such as Adobe) offer this option. Alternatively, you can easily upload individual PDFs via free online services and have them merged into one document. Search here in your search engine for "Merge PDF" and select one of the services offered. Even for PDF files that are too large, the following applies: let programs reduce the size! To do this, you can use your software, if available, or select a free service online using the search term "shrink PDF".

How do I write my letter of application?

In your cover letter, show which life events and experiences distinguish you for your training: A previous internship? A stay abroad or simply a passion for your field of activity?

The most individual of each application is the cover letter: It should be personal and close, highlight individual points from your CV and arouse curiosity about getting to know you personally.

This is why it is essential to write a cover letter yourself. Countless templates and draft formulations from the Internet should therefore be viewed with caution. Rely on your personality!

Show why your previous knowledge and skills might be the reason for your interest in J.J. Darboven and arouse curiosity about getting to know him personally. In your cover letter, for example, explain what you have experienced so far and what distinguishes you for your training. In your curriculum vitae, you will already point out these stages, but in your cover letter you can put selected points in relation to the requirements of the company.

Of course, we know that not everyone has a talent for writing. With these tips you will succeed in writing your personal cover letter:

Personality: Tell us who you are, what you are enthusiastic about and why you would fit in so well with us.
Commitment: Your letter of application should include why you would like to complete an apprenticeship at J.J. Darboven. What interests you about our company? And what exactly about this apprenticeship? Inform yourself about us as an employer and about the contents of your apprenticeship.
Qualifications and skills: What in your curriculum vitae is particularly relevant for the training position? For example, an internship in which you have already gained initial experience in your training occupation. Point this out and arouse our interest.
There are also a few formal criteria that need to be observed:

  • Spelling and grammar: A careful application says a lot about an applicant.
  • Personal approach: The cover letter should be addressed directly to the contact person specified for the training.
  • Short and informative: The cover letter should not be longer than one DIN A4 page.
  • Good to know: Have it proofread! It often helps to have the cover letter and CV in particular read by a relative or friend in order to avoid careless mistakes or to obtain further tips.

How do I design my resume?

The curriculum vitae should be clear and structured, should have no gaps and show all career stages.

There are different approaches to the curriculum vitae. With the antichronological structure, you as an applicant for a training place can do nothing wrong, so start with your most recent experience and then go back in time. You sort by categories:

1st category: Start with your personal details (name, date of birth, place of birth, etc.).
2nd category: Then list your school career and school-leaving qualifications antichronologically.
3rd category: If you have already gained professional experience (internship, part-time job, voluntary work, etc.), complete this antichronologically as well.
Category 4: Add your interests and special skills (IT skills, languages, etc.).
Here you will find a sample CV to help you find your way around.

What do I have to look out for in my certificates?

Please enclose all relevant certificates to your application:

  • Your last two semi-annual reports
  • Where appropriate, references to traineeships or work placements
  • Certificates or awards, if any
  • If you did not graduate from school in Germany, you must have your certificate recognised. Information on this can be obtained from the school office in your city.

How do I prepare for an interview?

During the interview, you will be able to discuss your interest in the training position and prove how well you have prepared yourself. Show how your enthusiasm matches that of the company, explain important milestones in your CV and convince with your know-how.

Your application documents convinced us and we invited you to an interview? The first hurdle has been cleared and we can get to know each other personally.

After we have introduced ourselves and J.J. Darboven with a few short sentences, we will ask you to tell us a little about yourself and explain your curriculum vitae. Often there will be further questions in the course of this and we will have a pleasant conversation in which we will get to know you better. In addition, questions may arise about your weaknesses and strengths as well as your knowledge about us as a company. During the interview, a written test could be held, depending on the profession you are training for.

Tips from our trainer

  • The interview is an important appointment. Plan your journey in good time so that you do not run the risk of appearing too late or stressed out.
  • Dress so that you feel comfortable. However, make sure you have a well-groomed appearance that is appropriate for the occupation you are training for.
  • A certain amount of nervousness is quite normal and the excitement often subsides after a few minutes. Be yourself and tell a little about yourself.
  • Know your strengths and show how to deal with your weaknesses.
  • Also prepare questions that you can ask at the end of the interview, such as questions about the company or your training occupation.
  • During the interview, you may also like to show how your enthusiasm matches that of the company and convince with your know-how about J.J. Darboven: Be it your preference for hot drinks such as coffee, cocoa and tea, for the company brands such as IDEE KAFFEE or the sharing of company values such as the Fairtraide-Bio brand Café Intención or the social commitment and sustainable actions of the company. If you already deal with our company in advance, you can score points with your knowledge and commitment.

We wish you lots of fun and success in your personal conversation.
